About the Mahindra Thar OG
Mahindra's ladder-frame off-roader, now sold as the Thar OG. Three turbo engines, part-time 4WD and a four-seat hard-top body, from Rs 10.32 lakh.
Mahindra replaced the old Thar with the Thar OG in September 2026. The line-up grew from 7 versions to 15, and a new ZXT trim now sits at the top. Prices run from Rs 10.32 lakh to Rs 18.99 lakh ex-showroom.
The Thar OG is a lifestyle off-roader in the old Jeep mould. It sits on a ladder-frame chassis, and part-time four-wheel drive with a low range transfer case is offered, so it can genuinely handle trails. There are three turbocharged engines. The 1.5 litre diesel makes 117 bhp and 300 Nm, the 2.2 litre diesel makes 150 bhp, and the 2.0 litre petrol makes 160 bhp. The last two both make 330 Nm. Six speed manual and six speed torque converter automatic gearboxes are available.
The short three door body, 232 mm of ground clearance and a 40 degree approach angle are what make it work off-road. The retro styling is why a lot of city buyers want one. It seats four, and every trim gets a hard top.
