Mahindra's off-roader. A body-on-frame 4x4 with a 117 bhp diesel and turbo-petrol options, from ₹10.00 lakh.
The Thar is a lifestyle off-roader in the old Jeep mould. It has a body-on-frame chassis, and four-wheel drive with low-range gearing is available, so it can genuinely handle trails. The 1.5-litre diesel makes 117 bhp at 3500 rpm and 300 Nm. There is also a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and a larger diesel, with manual and automatic gearboxes.
The two-door body, high ground clearance and short overhangs are what make it work off-road. The retro styling is also why a lot of city buyers want one. Prices run from ₹10.00 lakh to ₹17.62 lakh.
