BYD Cars in India

BYD's India line-up spans the Atto 3 electric SUV, the Seal electric sedan, the Sealion 7 electric SUV-coupe and the eMAX 7 electric MPV, with the Atto 2 and the Seal U DM-i plug-in hybrid expected next. Every model runs on the Blade battery, an LFP (lithium iron phosphate) design that uses no cobalt or nickel and is built as a structural part of the floor rather than a separate pack.

The company assembles cars locally at its facility near Chennai, where models arrive as complete-knock-down (CKD) kits. BYD has manufactured in India since 2007 through its electronics business, well before it began selling cars here, and that existing industrial footprint is what its passenger-vehicle operation was built on top of.

BYD sells and services through a growing network of dealer-partner showrooms concentrated in India's larger metros, and positions itself on battery technology and real-world range rather than on badge heritage. Because the range is entirely electric and imported or CKD-assembled rather than deeply localised, pricing sits above mass-market EVs and competes with premium electric offerings.
