About Toyota
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM)
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) — a 1997 joint venture between Japan's Toyota Motor Corporation (89%) and India's Kirloskar Group (11%) — is the Indian arm of one of the world's largest carmakers. Headquartered at Bidadi near Bengaluru, it is renowned for bullet-proof reliability, strong resale value and class-leading self-charging hybrid technology.
Toyota began India production in 1999 at its 432-acre Bidadi plant in Karnataka. Its line-up today runs from the value-focused Glanza hatchback and the Taisor and Rumion, through the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and the Innova Crysta and Innova Hycross MPVs that enjoy a cult following, to the iconic Fortuner and Hilux ladder-frame off-roaders and the Camry, Vellfire and Land Cruiser at the premium end.
Hybrid leadership is central to Toyota's India strategy: the Camry, Vellfire, Hyryder and Innova Hycross use efficient self-charging strong-hybrid powertrains, while the all-electric Urban Cruiser Ebella marks the brand's entry into mainstream EVs. Globally, Toyota pioneered the mass-market hybrid with the Prius and continues to lead in electrified, low-emission technology.
A 2019 alliance with Suzuki underpins several India models — the Glanza, Taisor, Rumion and Hyryder are co-developed with Maruti Suzuki — letting Toyota broaden its range quickly while keeping its hallmark quality. Built on the Toyota Production System and a philosophy of continuous improvement (kaizen), TKM produced over 337,000 vehicles in 2025 and sells through 380+ dealerships nationwide, with some of the strongest resale values in the market.
