Skoda is the Czech marque (founded 1895) that anchors the Volkswagen Group's India operations, run through Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL), formed in 2001 and headquartered in Pune. Known for solidly built, European-engineered cars with strong driving dynamics and a five-star safety reputation, Skoda has become one of India's most respected mainstream-premium brands.
Skoda's India range spans the made-in-India India 2.0 cars — the Kushaq compact SUV and the Slavia mid-size sedan, both on the locally developed MQB-A0-IN platform — alongside the sub-4-metre Kylaq SUV, the flagship Kodiaq seven-seat SUV and the performance-focused Octavia RS. The cars are prized for build quality, ride composure and class-leading crash-test results.
Manufacturing is handled at two Maharashtra plants — Chakan near Pune and Shendra in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad). India is also a strategic export hub for the Volkswagen Group, shipping the locally built Kushaq, Slavia, Kylaq and their VW twins to markets across the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia and Latin America.
Under the SAVWIPL umbrella Skoda shares engineering and components with Volkswagen, letting it offer European refinement, turbocharged TSI petrol engines and high localisation at competitive prices. The brand is expanding its India footprint with new SUVs and is preparing to enter the electric segment with the Enyaq, reinforcing a positioning built on safety, durability and engaging driving character.
