About the Kia Carens Clavis
The premium, restyled Carens MPV, with better tech, more power and a richer cabin.
The Carens Clavis is the upmarket, heavily updated version of the Carens MPV, in six- and seven-seat layouts. Engines are turbo-petrol and diesel, running from about 113 bhp to 158 bhp, with manual, iMT, DCT and torque-converter automatic gearboxes. Prices run from ₹11.23 lakh to ₹21.59 lakh, which places it well above the standard Carens.
The Clavis gets SUV-inspired styling, twin 12.3-inch displays, ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, Level 2 ADAS and connected-car features. It competes with the Maruti Ertiga and XL6 and the Toyota Innova Hycross, and it even crosses into compact-SUV territory. It suits families who want a well-equipped, premium three-row car that still drives like a car.
The factory CNG option is offered only on the HTE and HTE (O) trims with the 6-speed manual, and it carries a flat ₹1 lakh premium over the equivalent petrol (₹12.39 lakh vs ₹11.39 lakh, ₹13.35 lakh vs ₹12.35 lakh). Running on CNG the 1.5-litre engine is detuned to 95 bhp and 123 Nm, against 113 bhp and 144 Nm on petrol, so you trade about 18 bhp for the lower fuel cost. Whether that pays back depends on how much you drive: the cheaper fuel has to cover both the price premium and the boot space the cylinder takes up.
