Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG launches October 15: India's 3rd compact SUV with factory CNG

Mahindra is finally joining the CNG game, and it's doing it with an SUV, not a hatchback. The Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG launches on 15 October 2026, confirmed by the brand's own teaser. It will be only the third compact SUV in India with a factory CNG option, after the Tata Nexon and Maruti Brezza.

Launch date and expected price: 15 October, about ₹1 lakh over petrol

The XUV 3XO CNG goes on sale on 15 October 2026. Mahindra hasn't shared the price yet, but a CNG kit usually adds about ₹1 lakh over the same petrol trim. For context, the petrol range starts at ₹7.79 lakh (ex-showroom) for the MX1. So the CNG version could sit somewhere in the ₹8.7 lakh and up zone, depending on which trim it launches. On-road price will be higher once you add road tax, registration and insurance, and that varies by state.

Which engine and how much power? 1.2T MPFI: exact CNG output not confirmed

The CNG option is expected to use Mahindra's non-GDI 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. In petrol form, this MPFI unit makes 110 bhp and 200 Nm of torque (pulling power). The 3XO also gets a stronger 129 bhp GDI petrol and a 1.5 diesel, but those aren't the ones going CNG. Here's the honest bit: Mahindra has NOT revealed the CNG power or torque figures yet. Like most CNG cars, expect lower output when running on gas than on petrol, so hold off judging performance until launch day.

The big worry: will the CNG tank eat the boot?

This is the real question for a family buyer. The XUV 3XO already has a smaller boot than some rivals, and a CNG cylinder usually eats into luggage space. Mahindra could go with a single cylinder, or a twin-cylinder setup under the boot floor to save room. We don't know the layout yet, and it matters a lot. If you load bags for a weekend run to Lonavala, how much space is left could decide the sale. Please wait for the launch reveal before making any assumptions.

Which variants get CNG? Still unknown

Mahindra hasn't said which trims will offer CNG. Right now the petrol range runs from the MX1 at ₹7.79 lakh up to the MX3 Pro manual at ₹9.51 lakh, with the diesel MX3 Pro at ₹10.86 lakh. CNG is often limited to the mid and lower trims rather than the fully loaded top-spec. The manual gearbox is expected to carry over for the CNG; there's no word on an automatic CNG option. Full variant and feature details come at launch.

XUV 3XO CNG vs Nexon CNG vs Brezza CNG

The 3XO enters a small but growing club. The Tata Nexon CNG runs roughly ₹9.10 to 13.75 lakh, while the Maruti Brezza CNG sits around ₹8.76 to 13.96 lakh. If Mahindra prices the 3XO CNG aggressively, around ₹8.79 lakh at the base, it could undercut the Nexon's starting CNG price by about ₹30,000. Among petrol rivals in the segment, the Nissan Magnite (₹5.68 to 11.16 lakh), Hyundai Exter (₹5.81 to 10.43 lakh) and Renault Kiger (₹5.81 to 10.40 lakh) only offer dealer-fitted CNG, not factory. A factory kit means a proper warranty and better safety, which is a genuine plus for the Mahindra.

Should you wait for 15 October or buy petrol now?

If low running cost is your main goal, waiting a week makes sense. CNG cuts your fuel bill sharply versus the petrol's claimed 18.89 kmpl (ARAI, a government test that's always higher than real driving). It suits high-mileage city users, fleet buyers and Tier-2 families who clock big daily distances. But if you need full boot space and don't drive much, the petrol MX3 Pro at ₹9.51 lakh is already a sorted, practical pick. The 3XO's trump card is choice: petrol, diesel, EV and now CNG under one badge. Just don't commit blind. Power, torque and boot numbers land on launch day, and those decide whether this is truly paisa vasool.
