The Hyundai Bayon only hit showrooms on 26 October 2026, and Hyundai is already lining up a CNG version for January 2027. That's fast. And it gives the Bayon a real edge: it should be the only compact SUV you can buy with both a factory CNG kit and Level 2 ADAS (safety tech that can brake and steer for you).
Bayon CNG January 2027: what's confirmed
Hyundai has confirmed a CNG-powered Bayon for January 2027. That's barely three months after the petrol car launched, which tells you how hot CNG demand is in this segment right now. The company hasn't revealed prices or an exact date yet. What we do know: it'll use a factory-fitted CNG system, not a dealer add-on. CNG has quietly become the new diesel in this price band, and Hyundai doesn't want to miss out.

SUVCNG engine: 94.6 bhp and a 60-litre tank
The Bayon CNG is expected to use the same setup already seen in the Kia Carens Clavis CNG. That means a 1.2 engine making 94.6 bhp and 123.2 Nm of torque (pulling power). Compare that to the petrol Bayon's 113 bhp, so you lose roughly 18 bhp when running on gas. Expect only a 6-speed manual gearbox; there is no automatic option on CNG. A 60-litre CNG tank sits in the boot, likely with Hyundai's HY-CNG packaging. Hyundai hasn't shared a mileage figure yet, and Kia hasn't provided one for the Clavis CNG either.
Expected CNG price: around ₹11–14.9 lakh
The petrol Bayon is priced from ₹10 lakh (HX 2) to ₹16.69 lakh (HX 10 iVT), all ex-showroom. CNG usually adds about ₹1 lakh over the matching petrol variant. So the entry-level HX 2 CNG could be priced at around ₹11 lakh. Hyundai is expected to skip the top-spec HX 10 for CNG, offering it from HX 2 up to around HX 8 instead. That puts the likely CNG range at roughly ₹11 lakh to ₹14.9 lakh. On-road prices will be higher once you add road tax, registration and insurance, which vary by state.
Hyundai Bayon — Price by variant
| Variant | Ex-showroom price |
|---|---|
| HX 2 | ₹10 lakh |
| HX 3 | ₹10.55 lakh |
| HX 3+ | ₹11.09 lakh |
| HX 5 | ₹11.79 lakh – ₹13.19 lakh |
| HX 6 | ₹12.79 lakh – ₹14.19 lakh |
| HX 8 | ₹13.89 lakh – ₹15.29 lakh |
| HX 10 | ₹15.29 lakh – ₹16.69 lakh |
The boot problem: where does your luggage go?
Here's the honest niggle. A 60-litre CNG tank sits inside the boot, so you lose a big chunk of luggage space. On a Sunday run to Lonavala with a family of five, that's the difference between fitting everyone's bags and leaving one behind. This is the classic CNG trade-off and the Bayon won't escape it. If you regularly load up the boot, think hard before picking CNG over petrol.
Bayon CNG vs Nexon CNG vs Brezza CNG
This is where the Bayon makes its case. The Tata Nexon CNG and Maruti Brezza CNG are both solid, cheaper, and have proven CNG reliability. But neither offers Level 2 ADAS. The Bayon CNG likely starts about ₹2–3 lakh higher than those rivals. For that extra money you get ADAS, a dual-screen cabin and split LED headlamps. So the question is simple: do you want the lowest running cost, or do you want advanced safety and a more premium cabin on gas?
Wait for CNG or buy petrol now?
If CNG running costs matter most to you, and ADAS is a bonus, the Bayon CNG is worth the wait to January 2027. The ₹1 lakh premium over petrol pays back fast in fuel savings for high-km drivers. But if you want the automatic (iVT) or the fully loaded HX 10, stick with petrol, because CNG skips both. And if your budget is tight, the Nexon CNG or Brezza CNG save you ₹2–3 lakh today. For a city family that drives a lot and wants safety tech, the Bayon CNG fits the bill.
