Nissan's 7-Seat SUV Spied: Longer Body, New Tail-Lights, 2027 Launch

Nissan has a 7-seat SUV coming, and a test car has just been spotted on Indian roads. It's built on the same base as the 5-seat Tekton, but it's longer and gets a new rear look. Nissan has confirmed the launch for 2027, though the price and features are still guesswork for now.

What we know: spied testing, 2027 launch confirmed

A Nissan 7-seat SUV has been spied testing, heavily covered in camouflage (disguise wrap to hide the design). This will be Nissan's second 7-seat SUV in India, after the X-Trail, which was sold as a CBU import (fully built abroad and shipped here) and is no longer on sale. Nissan has officially confirmed the launch for 2027, but no exact date or month has been announced. So don't expect it anytime soon. It shares the CMF-B platform with the Tekton, but Nissan India MD Saurabh Vatsa says it will be "completely different, not just an extension of the Tekton."

Design: longer body and boomerang tail lights vs. Tekton

The test car looks clearly longer than the 5-seat Tekton. The extra length shows up behind the rear wheels, with a bigger rear quarter panel and a larger quarter glass for the third row. At the front, it keeps the Tekton's inverted-L LED daytime running lamps and LED headlights, though a revised grille and bumper are expected under the wrap. The rear is where things change most. The Tekton's C-shaped tail-light signature is swapped for a boomerang-shaped design that drops downwards, joined by a thicker LED light bar and a flatter rear windscreen. Remember, the heavy camouflage still hides plenty, so the final look could surprise us.

Expected engine: 1.3L turbo-petrol, manual, and DCT

The larger SUV will likely use the Tekton’s 1.3-liter four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine (turbo-petrol means a petrol engine with a turbo to make it more powerful). It will probably miss out on the 5-seater’s smaller 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, which makes sense given the added weight of a third row. Front-wheel drive comes with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed wet dual-clutch auto (a fast-shifting auto gearbox). No power figures or mileage figures have been released by Nissan yet, so take all this as expected, not confirmed.

Expected price and rivals: ₹18–22 lakh vs Safari, Alcazar, XUV 7XO

The 7-seater is expected to be priced between ₹18 lakh and ₹22 lakh (ex-showroom, before road tax, registration, and insurance, which vary by state). That slots it right into the busy 3-row SUV space. It will take on the Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar, and Mahindra XUV 7XO. Those are established names with strong diesel options and big cabins, so Nissan has a tough fight on its hands with a petrol-only line-up.

Interior and features: still a blank

We don't have cabin or feature details yet. The SUV will get three rows, with the third row expected to follow a 5+2 layout (two small extra seats for kids or short trips). Nissan is also expected to add features over the Tekton to suit the bigger body. For now, the inside remains a mystery.
