If you'd set your heart on a Swift in Bluish Black, bad news. Maruti has quietly taken that shade off the menu. But six colours stay, some with a black-roof dual-tone look, and the real question for buyers is which of the five variants gives you the best kit for your money.
Swift colour update: what replaced Bluish Black
Maruti has officially confirmed the Bluish Black shade is gone from the Swift range. Nothing new comes in to replace it, so the palette is now six colours. You get Magma Grey, Splendid Silver, Sizzling Red, Luster Blue, Novel Orange, and Pearl Arctic White. Some of these come with a black roof (dual-tone) for a sportier look. So if you want the Swift to stand out, Novel Orange or a dual-tone option is now your go-to. This is a purely cosmetic change and doesn't touch price or features.
Swift variant line-up and prices (LXi to ZXi Plus)
The Swift comes in five variants, all ex-showroom. The base LXi petrol manual starts at ₹5.84 lakh. Then comes VXi at ₹6.68 lakh and VXi (O) at ₹6.94 lakh. The ZXi sits at ₹7.62 lakh, and the top ZXi Plus starts at ₹8.29 lakh. A dual-tone ZXi Plus MT is ₹8.44 lakh, and the AMT version tops out near ₹8.74 lakh. Remember, on-road price will be higher after road tax, registration and insurance, and this varies by state. The top-end trials pack in a 9-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless phone charger, automatic climate control and cruise control. On safety, the Swift gets 6 airbags, electronic stability control, hill-hold, and ISOFIX child-seat mounts.

Petrol vs AMT vs CNG: mileage and running cost
The Swift runs a 1.2-litre petrol engine making 80 bhp @ 5700 rpm. Manual petrol returns 24.8 kmpl (ARAI, a government test, always higher than real driving). The AMT (automatic manual, easy clutch-free driving in traffic) is rated slightly higher at 25.75 kmpl. Then there's CNG, offered in three trims: VXi at ₹7.57 lakh, VXi (O) at ₹7.83 lakh, and ZXi at ₹8.51 lakh. CNG drops power to 69 bhp but slashes your fuel bill. If you drive a lot in the city, CNG pays back the extra cost over a year or two. In real driving, expect roughly 18–20 kmpl on petrol and much cheaper per-km running on CNG.
Ethanol and E20 fuel: what it means for your Swift
India is moving to E20 petrol (fuel with 20% ethanol mixed in). The current Swift is built to run on E20 without any engine trouble and as the matter of fact . But do note, ethanol has less energy than pure petrol, so your mileage can drop a bit, often 3–6% lower. That's a small real-world cost most owners barely notice. Petrol pumps across India are already selling E20, so availability isn't a worry. If you want the lowest running cost overall, the CNG Swift still beats any petrol-ethanol mix by a wide margin.

The VXi at ₹6.68 lakh is the practical starting point for most buyers. The VXi (O) at ₹6.94 lakh adds a small safety bump for ₹26,000 more, worth it for the extra peace of mind. But if you want the touchscreen, wireless charger and full comfort kit, you need to climb to ZXi (₹7.62 lakh) or ZXi Plus (₹8.29 lakh). The AMT adds about ₹45,000 over the manual in most trims, which is fair for the ease it brings in city traffic. Our pick for the money is the ZXi petrol MT: it has the key features without the ZXi Plus premium.
Swift vs Tiago, Celerio: price and value check
The Swift LXi at ₹5.84 lakh is ₹1.14 lakh dearer than the Tata Tiago base at ₹4.70 lakh. That gap buys you Maruti's easy service network and strong resale value, which many first-time buyers care about. At the top, the Swift's ₹8.89 lakh edges past the Tiago's ₹8.55 lakh ceiling. Against Maruti's own Celerio (₹4.70–6.75 lakh), the Swift is a size up and more fun to drive. So the Swift isn't the cheapest hatch here, but it holds its value better than most rivals.
Verdict: buy now or wait?
The colour drop is minor, purely cosmetic, and no reason to delay a purchase. The Swift still delivers the sporty-hatch-on-a-budget promise with a peppy petrol engine, real fuel savings on CNG, and solid safety kit. If you want the sweet spot, the ZXi petrol MT at ₹7.62 lakh gets you the big touchscreen and comfort features without overspending. If low running cost matters most, the CNG ZXi at ₹8.51 lakh makes sense for high-mileage city drivers. Just don't shortlist Bluish Black, it's no longer on the list.
