Maruti's most popular premium hatchback is getting a mid-life update, expected in early September 2026, with reports suggesting September 5. The big news isn't the new grille or alloys. It's the CNG-AMT (a factory CNG car with an automatic-style clutch-free gearbox), which lets you get CNG's low running cost without tiring your left leg in traffic. Here's what changes and whether you should buy now or wait.
Baleno CNG-AMT launch date & expected price
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno facelift is expected to launch in early September 2026, with reports suggesting September 5. The current range runs from the Sigma at ₹5.99 lakh to the Alpha AMT at ₹9.17 lakh (ex-showroom). Right now CNG comes only with a manual on the Delta and Zeta trims. With the update, Maruti is expected to add an AMT option to these CNG trims. Industry estimates suggest the Delta CNG-AMT could land around ₹8.27 lakh, though this is an unconfirmed estimate, not a confirmed price.
Full variant walk-up: Sigma to Alpha
The Sigma at ₹5.99 lakh is the base petrol MT. The Delta at ₹6.85 lakh (petrol MT) adds most of the daily-use kit and opens up AMT (₹7.35L) and CNG (₹7.77L). The Zeta at ₹7.75 lakh (petrol MT) steps up features, with its own AMT (₹8.25L) and CNG-MT (₹8.67L). The top Alpha starts at ₹8.67 lakh (petrol MT) and tops out at ₹9.17 lakh (petrol AMT). Note that CNG today is offered only on Delta and Zeta, not on the base Sigma or top Alpha. The new CNG-AMT should slot into those same two mid trims.
What's new in the facelift (and what stays the same)?
The front gets the most attention. A new bumper and fresh grille give it a more modern face, likely with a connected LED light bar splitting the grille. Expect new 16-inch alloy wheels too. The overall body shape stays the same, so it still looks like a Baleno. The rear sees only minor tweaks, and the taillamp design carries over unchanged. Inside, expect a new cabin theme and small dashboard changes, while the Head-Up Display (info shown on the windscreen) and 360-degree camera stay on. The engine is untouched.

The Baleno keeps its 1.2-litre petrol engine, making 90 PS (roughly 89 bhp) and claiming 22.35 km/l mileage. On CNG, output is expected to be lower, but mileage jumps to 30.61 km/kg (ARAI, a government test that runs higher than real driving). The new bit is pairing CNG with the AMT (automated manual, where a robot works the clutch for you). This means no clutch pedal on your CNG car. Be honest about the trade-off: an AMT shifts slower than a torque converter, and CNG mode already feels a touch softer than petrol. So expect a small pause between gears, especially on inclines.
Features & safety by trim
Six airbags, ABS, EBD, ESP, hill-hold assist, parking sensors, and a reverse camera are all retained. The 360-degree camera and Head-Up Display continue on higher trims. The facelift may add ventilated seats, an electric sunroof, a bigger touchscreen, a wireless charger, and a better sound system, though Maruti hasn't confirmed which trim gets what. If past Baleno logic holds, the plush kit will sit on the Zeta and Alpha. Nothing on Bharat NCAP crash-test stars has been shared yet.
Baleno vs. Tiago and Celerio CNG
Against its rivals, the Baleno plays the premium card. The Tata Tiago costs ₹4.70–8.55 lakh, but its CNG is manual-only, so no clutch-free option there. Maruti's own Celerio spans ₹4.70–6.73 lakh and is smaller and cheaper. The Renault Kwid (₹4.53–5.61 lakh) and Citroën C3 X (₹4.99–9.68 lakh) round out the price rivals. The Baleno's edge is a roomier, better-equipped cabin plus a CNG-AMT that its direct hatch rivals simply don't offer. You pay more, but you get the automatic CNG combo nobody else has.
Who should buy the CNG-AMT?
The Delta CNG-AMT (expected around ₹8.27 lakh) is the pick for city commuters and fleet operators. You get CNG's low running cost, roughly 30 km on a kilo, plus no clutch in bumper-to-bumper traffic. If you rarely see a CNG pump or drive mostly on highways, the Alpha petrol AMT at ₹9.17 lakh makes more sense with its fuller feature list. And if CNG-AMT isn't a must, the current CNG-MT at ₹7.77 lakh saves you money today. If you want CNG savings without left-leg fatigue, wait less than two weeks for the expected early September launch.
