Tata just doubled the Sierra's variant list overnight. The new Legend Series adds 18 trims, all with an 'L' badge, starting at ₹11.99 lakh. The idea is simple: bring feel-good features like ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof and a 360-degree camera down to more affordable price points. But every Legend trim costs ₹35,000 to ₹85,000 more than the standard trim it's based on, so the real question is whether that extra money is worth it.
Legend Series vs standard Sierra: what does the ₹35k–₹85k premium buy?
The Legend Series doesn't replace anything. Tata keeps selling the existing Sierra trims alongside them, with the same features and engines. The Legend trims are built on the lower and mid-spec versions but add more comfort kit for a small premium. The standard Smart Plus petrol MT still opens the whole Sierra range at ₹11.49 lakh. The cheapest Legend trim, Smart+ L, is ₹11.99 lakh, exactly ₹50,000 more. At the top, the Adventure+ L diesel AT sits at ₹19.49 lakh, while the full Sierra range tops out at ₹21.79 lakh with the Accomplished+ diesel AT. Engines and gearboxes: what's actually new
The engines carry over. You get the 1.5-litre petrol (105 bhp), the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol (158 bhp) and the 1.5-litre diesel (116 bhp). One change matters for gearbox choice: the Adventure+ L offers the 105 bhp petrol with a DCT (a smooth automatic gearbox) at ₹18.29 lakh, which the standard Adventure+ does not get. The 158 bhp turbo-petrol stays where it was, from ₹18.14 lakh on the standard Adventure+, so no Legend trim makes it cheaper to reach. One honest niggle: mileage figures still show 'ARAI Certification Pending', so official fuel economy isn't confirmed yet. Wait for those numbers before you pick petrol over diesel.
Sierra Smart+ L vs Skoda Kylaq and Hyundai Venue: is it worth the extra cash?
The Sierra Smart+ L at ₹11.99 lakh looks pricey next to rivals. The Skoda Kylaq starts at just ₹7.59 lakh, a full ₹4.4 lakh less, though at that price you get cloth seats and manual everything. The Hyundai Venue base is ₹8 lakh. But those are smaller SUVs. The Sierra is a bigger car with more cabin space and road presence. So you pay more, but you get more metal and, in the Legend trims, more features too. Hyundai still has the edge on service network reach.
On-road price estimate for the Legend Series
The ₹11.99–19.49 lakh figures are ex-showroom, India. Your on-road price will be higher after road tax, registration and insurance are added. As a rough guide, expect the on-road price to be about 12–15% more, so the base Smart+ L could land near ₹13.5 lakh on-road in most cities.
