For years, Dzire CNG buyers who wanted an automatic had one painful choice: pick the petrol AMT and lose the fuel savings. That's now over. Maruti has launched the Maruti Suzuki Dzire CNG-AMT at ₹8.53 lakh for VXi and ₹9.19 lakh for ZXi. You get the easy stop-go driving of an auto plus the low cost of CNG. But is the extra ₹35,000 over the manual CNG actually worth it? Let's do the maths.
Dzire CNG-AMT price: where VXi ₹8.53L and ZXi ₹9.19L sit
The new AMT (a self-shifting gearbox that removes the clutch) comes only in the two middle trims. The VXi CNG-AMT costs ₹8.53 lakh and the ZXi CNG-AMT costs ₹9.19 lakh, both ex-showroom. On-road prices will be higher after road tax, registration and insurance, and these vary by state. For context, the Dzire range starts at ₹6.31 lakh for the base LXi petrol-manual and tops out at ₹9.41 lakh for the ZXi Plus petrol-AMT. So the CNG-AMT slots into the upper-middle of the line-up. Design, cabin and features are untouched; the only change is the gearbox.

What the ₹35,000 AMT premium buys you over CNG-MT
The VXi CNG-manual sells at ₹8.18 lakh. The new VXi CNG-AMT asks ₹8.53 lakh. That's a jump of about ₹35,000 for the automatic. What you're paying for is pure convenience in traffic, no clutch, no gear-shifting in bumper-to-bumper crawls on a Bengaluru or Mumbai commute. The engine, kit and CNG kit stay exactly the same. So this is a straight convenience upgrade, not a features upgrade. If your daily drive is mostly open highway, the manual saves you that ₹35,000 with no real loss.

Mileage: 33.73 km/kg claimed, and a number worth flagging
The CNG engine makes 69 bhp and 101 Nm running on gas. Maruti's official claimed mileage for the CNG version is 33.73 km/kg (an ARAI-style test figure, always higher than real driving). Expect real-world numbers closer to the high-20s per kg in mixed use. Interestingly, one source lists the AMT's claimed mileage at 36.47 km/kg, higher than the manual's 33.73 km/kg. We can't fully verify that AMT figure against the manual-only number in our catalogue, so treat it with caution until Maruti confirms it clearly. Either way, CNG stays far cheaper to run than the petrol AMT's claimed 25.71 kmpl.
VXi vs ZXi CNG-AMT: which trim makes sense
The VXi CNG-AMT at ₹8.53 lakh covers the basics well. The ZXi CNG-AMT at ₹9.19 lakh adds the nicer kit buyers actually notice. That means 15-inch painted alloy wheels, LED headlamps, a reverse camera, TPMS (tyre pressure warning), a 7-inch touchscreen with wireless phone mirroring, a wireless charger, climate control with rear vents and rear USB-C fast charging. For a ₹66,000 gap, the ZXi feels like the sweet spot if you spend long hours inside. If budget is tight, the VXi still gets you the auto gearbox and CNG savings, which is the whole point.
Running cost: CNG-AMT vs petrol-AMT over the years
Here's why CNG buyers put up with the boot space loss. The VXi petrol-AMT costs ₹7.72 lakh, cheaper upfront than the ₹8.53 lakh CNG-AMT. But petrol at claimed 25.71 kmpl works out far pricier per kilometre than CNG at 33.73 km/kg, because CNG itself costs much less per unit than petrol. Over 12,000-15,000 km a year, the fuel saving usually clears that ₹81,000 upfront gap within two to three years for a regular city commuter. The catch: the 55-litre CNG tank sits in the boot, cutting into the 382-litre luggage space. For families who mostly do city runs and short trips, the CNG-AMT pays for itself.
Dzire CNG-AMT vs Tata Tigor CNG-AMT: the timing catch
The Dzire's closest rival here is the Tata Tigor CNG-AMT. The Tigor currently sells from around ₹5.7 lakh to ₹9.1 lakh, so the Dzire CNG-AMT sits above Tata's cheaper trims but brings Maruti's huge service network and a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating. The wrinkle: the Tigor CNG-AMT is expected to get a major upgrade next month. That could change its price and features. So if you're cross-shopping, it may be worth waiting a few weeks to see what Tata puts on the table before signing.
