The Hyundai Exter Knight was a one-year special edition in 2024. Now it's back, but this time as a permanent part of the range. You get black paint, red brake calipers and brass cabin accents for about ₹14,000 more than the same standard trim. Nothing else changes. So the real question is simple: do you love the blacked-out look enough to pay for it?

The Knight range starts at ₹8.13 lakh for the HX 6 Knight petrol manual (MT). The HX 6 Knight AMT (an automatic that shifts gears for you) is ₹8.73 lakh. The HX 6 Knight CNG manual sits at ₹9.09 lakh. And the top HX 10 Knight petrol AMT is ₹9.60 lakh, ex-showroom. All prices are ex-showroom, so add road tax, registration and insurance for the on-road figure, which varies by state. The standard Exter still spans ₹5.81 lakh (HX 2 petrol MT) to ₹10.43 lakh, so the Knight slots into the upper half of the range.
What you get (and don't): styling only, no extra features
This is a cosmetic pack, plain and simple. Outside you get matte black Hyundai and Exter badges, dark grey bumper and side-sill trim, a Knight emblem, 15-inch black alloy wheels and red-painted front brake calipers. Lower trims get dark grey styled steel wheels instead of alloys. Inside there's an all-black cabin, brass-coloured accents, black semi-fabric seats, amber footwell lighting and a black D-cut steering wheel on select variants. But the touchscreen, connected car tech, automatic climate control and the full safety kit are the same as the standard Exter. You pay for the look, not for more equipment.
Knight vs standard Exter: the ₹ comparison
Here's the value math. The HX 6 Knight petrol MT costs ₹8.13 lakh. A regular HX 6 petrol MT is ₹7.99 lakh. So the black theme adds about ₹14,000. The top HX 10 Knight AMT at ₹9.60 lakh is similarly around ₹14,000 over the standard HX 10 AMT at ₹9.46 lakh. That's a small jump for a full styling makeover, which is why Hyundai calls it only "marginally" pricier. The gap only looks big if you compare the HX 6 Knight CNG (₹9.09 lakh) against a lower HX 4 CNG (₹8.28 lakh), and that's a higher trim, not a fair like-for-like.
Exter Knight specs, mileage and CNG: nothing mechanical changes
Under the bonnet, it's the same 1.2-litre four-cylinder Kappa petrol engine making 82 bhp and 114 Nm of torque (pulling power). You pick a 5-speed manual or the Smart Auto AMT. The bi-fuel CNG version makes 68 bhp and 95 Nm and comes only with the manual. That four-cylinder petrol is a real edge over the three-cylinder Tata Punch, feeling smoother in city traffic and on a highway run to Lonavala. Ethanol note: like most new petrol cars, the engine runs on E20 (petrol blended with up to 20% ethanol), which India is pushing at pumps. Ethanol lowers mileage slightly, but you won't notice much day to day, and Hyundai's warranty covers E20 use.

If the blacked-out SUV look is a must-have, the Knight is a fair deal. Roughly ₹14,000 over the equal standard trim is not a steep price for a complete style upgrade, and Hyundai's Knight range has already crossed 1 lakh sales since 2022. But if you don't care about black paint, the plain HX 6 petrol MT at ₹7.99 lakh is the smarter buy, since you lose nothing but the cosmetics. Against a Renault Kiger top MT at ₹10.35 lakh, the HX 10 Knight AMT (₹9.60 lakh) undercuts it and adds automatic convenience, though the Kiger's turbo petrol is punchier.
