Volkswagen has rolled out the Virtus Anniversary Edition at ₹19.20 lakh (ex-showroom) to mark four years of the sedan in India. It is a GT Plus Sport with one big change: an exclusive avocado pearl paint, a black roof, and black alloys. Everything else, engine, features, and safety, stays exactly the same. And with the Skoda Slavia facelift landing on 18 August, this special edition looks more like a run-out play than a party.
What is the Virtus Anniversary Edition, and what does ₹19.20 lakh get you?
The Anniversary Edition is built on the top-spec GT Plus Sport variant. You get the 1.5-liter TSI EVO turbo-petrol engine (turbo means an extra air pump for more power), making 148 bhp and 250 Nm of torque (pulling power). It sends power to the front wheels through a 7-speed DSG automatic (a fast dual-clutch gearbox). ARAI mileage (a government test, always higher than real driving) is 19.62 kmpl, so expect roughly 12-14 kmpl in the city and better on the highway. Features carry over in full: a 10-inch touchscreen, 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit (all-digital driver's screen), electric sunroof, Laser Red ambient lighting, aluminum pedals, rain-sensing wipers, and an auto-dimming mirror. Safety stays strong too, with six airbags standard and a 5-star Global NCAP rating.
Avocado Pearl vs. GT Plus Sport: Any real change beyond the paint?
In one word, no. The only genuine difference is the exclusive Avocado Pearl shade paired with a black roof and black alloy wheels. It does look sharper and more distinct than the regular GT Plus Sport. But there are zero mechanical changes and zero new features. The engine, gearbox, screens, and safety kit are lifted straight from the GT Plus Sport. So you are paying for a color and some exclusivity, nothing more.

Here is the honest bit. Our catalogue already lists the GT Plus Sport at ₹19.20 lakh, the same as the Anniversary Edition. So there is effectively no price premium for the special paint, which is a fair deal by special-edition standards. For context, the wider GT Plus range runs ₹18.85-19.20 lakh, both DSG-only. Down the ladder, the Virtus starts at ₹10.71 lakh for the Comfortline manual, with the popular Highline at ₹13.51 lakh. On-road prices will be higher; add road tax, registration, and insurance, which vary by state.

The timing is the real story. Just over two weeks ago, Skoda launched a limited Slavia Monte Carlo edition in Shimla Green and Steel Grey, capped at 200 units. The Slavia and Virtus are sister cars built on the same MQB-A0-IN platform at the same Chakan plant near Pune. The Avocado Pearl on the Virtus looks almost identical to Skoda's Shimla Green, so both clearly share a paint palette. And the Slavia facelift launches on 18 August. Since the Virtus usually follows the Slavia's update cycle, its own facelift is expected soon after, likely next month. That makes the Anniversary Edition look like a bridge to keep buyers interested and move existing stock before the new model arrives.

Anniversary Edition vs. rivals: How does it stack up?
At this price, the Virtus GT plays in the sportier corner of the mid-size sedan space. The Honda City tops out at ₹21.04 lakh but has no turbo-petrol punch to match this 148 bhp motor. The Hyundai Verna's turbo does get close on power, and it undercuts on price, starting at ₹10.99 lakh. The closest sibling, the Skoda Slavia (₹10-18.19 lakh), shares the same engine and platform, so your choice there is mostly badge and styling. Against all of them, the Virtus wins on German build feel, that quick DSG, and the 5-star safety score.
Should you buy the Anniversary Edition or wait for the facelift?
This comes down to what you want. If you love the Avocado Pearl look and want a rare Virtus, buy now. You are paying for exclusive paint, not a price markup, so it is not a bad deal. But if you care about the latest design and any new tech, waiting four to six weeks makes far more sense. The facelift will likely bring cosmetic updates and possibly fresher features for similar money. Our take: the GT Plus Sport is already a peppy, well-built, safe sedan, and the Anniversary Edition doesn't add anything under the skin. Buy it only for the color.
