E Challan Delhi: Check your challan and your camera notice.
Delhi issues more camera notices than any other city in India, and almost nobody pays them, because almost nobody knows they exist. Enter your registration number and see what is open against the vehicle.

Zurich Kotak A joint venture between Zurich Insurance and Kotak, offering comprehensive and third party cover for a private car.
- Comprehensive and third party policies
- Cashless repair at network garages
- Buy or renew online without a branch visit
- Third party cover is compulsory. Driving without it is an offence under the Motor Vehicles Act — ₹2,000 for a first offence, more for a repeat.
- Third party liability for injury or death is unlimited. One serious accident can cost more than the car is worth.
- Third party alone pays nothing towards your own car. Comprehensive adds theft, fire, flood and collision damage to it.
- Every claim-free year cuts your own damage premium, up to 50% after five. Let the policy lapse for more than 90 days and that discount is gone.
- IRDAI fixes the third party rate, so it is identical everywhere. Insurers only compete on the own damage part, the optional covers and the claim service.
- A challan does not expire. It stays against the vehicle until it is paid or a court disposes of it.
- After about 60 days it is sent to court. From there it is a case under the Motor Vehicles Act, not a fine you can clear online.
- A court challan takes 45–60 days to settle, against 1–3 hours for one paid online — and court fees make it cost more.
- The RTO will not clear an ownership transfer, an NOC, an RC renewal or a fitness certificate while challans are pending. In practice that blocks selling the car.
- Five or more challans in one year can disqualify the driving licence under the rules in force from January 2026. Some states act at three.
- Once it is in court, a National Lok Adalat can compound it at a reduced amount — commonly 30–50% less. Those sittings are quarterly, so it is a wait, not a shortcut.

Is this number correct?
Delhi has 2.59 crore camera notices nobody has paid
Between 2021 and September 2026 Delhi traffic cameras generated 3.26 crore notices. Around 67 lakh were paid. That leaves about 2.59 crore sitting open, and the share being paid has fallen every year.
| Year | Camera notices | On the spot | Notices paid |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2021 | 66 lakh | 13.2 lakh | 26% |
| 2025 | 51.6 lakh | 38.9 lakh | under 15% |
| 2026, to September | 40.6 lakh | 30.8 lakh | under 5% |
2022, 2023 and 2024 are not shown because the published figures cover 2021, 2025 and 2026 along with the six-year totals. Rows have not been filled in by estimate.
In 2026 about 2 lakh of 40.6 lakh camera notices were paid. A payment rate under five per cent is not what refusal looks like, because a fine people know about and object to still gets paid at a far higher rate than that. It is what happens when the notice goes to a phone number nobody checks, or to the number of the dealer who sold the car.
Those 40.6 lakh camera notices work out to roughly 10 a minute. Counting the 30.8 lakh challans handed over by officers as well, Delhi issued about 71.4 lakh in nine months, or around 18 every minute.
Delhi figures as reported by The Patriot on 8 October 2026.
Delhi sends two different things, from two different places
Most states have one challan trail. Delhi has two, and they do not look alike.
A camera notice
40.6 lakh in 2026
Raised automatically when a camera reads your plate. Delhi Traffic Police handles these through what it calls the Notice Branch Traffic Enforcement System, and its own lookup at traffic.delhipolice.gov.in takes either a vehicle number or a notice number. Nobody stops you, and nothing happens at the roadside.
An on-the-spot challan
30.8 lakh in 2026
Raised by an officer who has pulled you over, using a handheld device. You know you have one because you were there. These sit in the national record at echallan.parivahan.gov.in like challans from every other state.
Check both. Delhi Traffic Police runs its own lookup in addition to the national portal, and the safest assumption is that neither one is guaranteed to show you everything the other has. Searching by registration number on this page covers the national record; the police site is one click away below.
The next Lok Adalat is 12 December 2026
A National Lok Adalat is a sitting where pending cases are settled by agreement rather than argued. Traffic challans are one of the commonest things heard, and the bench can reduce the amount on the day. It is free and you do not need an advocate.
In Delhi these are organised by the Delhi State Legal Services Authority. The next National Lok Adalat falls on 12 December 2026, the second Saturday, on the national quarterly calendar.
One limit worth knowing before you plan around it: a Lok Adalat can only take compoundable offences that have already been sent to court. A camera notice sitting unpaid on the portal is not automatically in that category, and an offence like drink driving under section 185 cannot be compounded at all. DSLSA announces which challans qualify and how to get a token closer to the date.
National Lok Adalat dates follow NALSA’s quarterly calendar. Delhi sittings are run by the Delhi State Legal Services Authority.
Driving across the NCR border
A Delhi plate picks up challans in Gurugram and Faridabad, and a Haryana plate picks them up in Delhi. The challan attaches to the vehicle, not to the city, so it does not matter where the plate was issued.
Gurgaon
The heaviest-enforced district in Haryana, and mostly cameras. One scooter stopped at Rajeev Chowk was carrying 96 pending challans, 95 of them raised by CCTV.
Check a Gurgaon challan →Faridabad
A highway district. Number plate recognition runs on NH-19, the Delhi to Agra corridor, which carries heavy Delhi traffic every day.
Check a Faridabad challan →Haryana
The state record behind both, with Haryana Traffic Police’s own eleven-year challan table.

Delhi Traffic Police’s own Notice Branch lookup. Takes a vehicle number or a notice number. This is where camera notices live.
The national system, run by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. No service fee.
The mobile number on the registration is the whole problem
A camera notice goes to whatever number sits on the vehicle record at the RTO. On a car bought through a dealer that is very often the dealer’s number, not yours, and on a second-hand car it can still be the previous owner’s. Nothing reaches you, the notice is never refused or disputed, it simply goes unread. That is the most likely explanation for a payment rate under five per cent, and the reason a search by registration number tells you something an inbox cannot.
E Challan Delhi: frequently asked questions
How do I check a Delhi challan by vehicle number?
Enter the registration number in the box on this page. You can also use Delhi Traffic Police’s own lookup at traffic.delhipolice.gov.in, which accepts a vehicle number or a notice number, or the national portal at echallan.parivahan.gov.in. Checking is free on all three.
I was never stopped in Delhi. Can I still have a challan?
Yes, and in Delhi it is the usual case. Delhi cameras generated 40.6 lakh notices in the first nine months of 2026, roughly 10 every minute, against 30.8 lakh challans issued by officers at the roadside. A camera notice involves no interaction at all.
Why do so few people pay Delhi camera notices?
Around 2 lakh of 40.6 lakh camera notices issued in 2026 had been paid, under five per cent, and 2.59 crore notices from 2021 onwards are still open. The likeliest reason is that the notice goes to the mobile number on the vehicle record at the RTO, which on a dealer-bought or second-hand car is frequently not the current owner’s number.
What is the difference between a Delhi notice and a challan?
Delhi Traffic Police handles camera violations through what it calls the Notice Branch Traffic Enforcement System, with its own lookup. Challans written by an officer who stopped you go into the national record. In practice both are money you owe; the difference is where you find them, which is why it is worth checking both.
When is the next Lok Adalat for Delhi traffic challans?
12 December 2026, the second Saturday, on the national quarterly calendar. Delhi sittings are run by the Delhi State Legal Services Authority. It is free and needs no advocate, but it can only settle compoundable offences that have already been sent to court, and DSLSA confirms which challans qualify closer to the date.
My car is registered in Noida or Gurgaon. Can it have a Delhi challan?
Yes. A challan attaches to the vehicle rather than to the state that issued the plate, so a UP or Haryana registration picks one up on a Delhi camera exactly as a DL plate does. Searching by registration number finds it whichever city raised it.
Does an unpaid Delhi challan stop me selling or transferring the car?
Pending challans show against the registration number, so they surface in any check a buyer, an insurer or an RTO runs on the vehicle. Clearing them before a transfer avoids the question being raised at the counter. Checking first costs nothing.
