The Range Rover just went electric, and India can book one now. This is the brand's first full-EV, built at Solihull in the UK, with 550 bhp and a claimed 600 km range. But here's the key point: it doesn't replace the petrol and diesel Land Rover Range Rover, which still spans ₹2.40 crore to ₹4.66 crore. This is a parallel, top-shelf EV bet.
Range Rover Electric India price: what we know (and don't)
Bookings are open, but Land Rover hasn't put an India price on the Range Rover Electric yet. So treat any number you see as a guess for now. Given it packs 550 bhp and the full Range Rover badge, expect it to land at or above the top-spec petrol SV, which costs ₹4.66 crore (ex-showroom). On-road cost adds road tax, registration and insurance, and that varies by state. We'll update the moment official pricing drops.
But it wont make sense for the brand to put first EV to price that high as per our expertise.
550 bhp, 600 km range, 22-minute fast charge: the EV powertrain
Two electric motors put out 260 kW each, for a combined 550 bhp and 850 Nm of torque (pulling power) some serious power figures. That's serious muscle for a near-silent SUV. The battery is a big 118.5 kWh pack (that's the battery size) using 800V tech, which allows very fast charging. On a suitable DC fast charger, you get 10 to 80 percent in about 22 minutes. Land Rover says 10 minutes can add up to 220 km of range. The claimed 600 km is on the WLTP cycle (a lab test that runs higher than real driving), so plan for roughly 400–450 km in the real world. Which Tata harrier also offers you in the budget of just 25-30 Lakhs.
How does it stack up against the petrol and diesel Range Rover?
The Land Rover Range Rover lineup stays busy. It kicks off with the HSE diesel at ₹2.40 crore making 346 bhp. Then the Autobiography petrol at ₹2.65 crore with 394 bhp. The SV range climbs from ₹3.83 crore (diesel) to the range-topping ₹4.66 crore petrol SV with 606 bhp. The electric's 550 bhp slots just under that petrol SV's 606 bhp, but delivers it instantly and silently. If you want the flagship feel without the fuel bills, the EV makes a strong case, once we know the price.
Range Rover Electric vs Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV: the only EV rival
In this space, the closest electric rival is the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV at ₹2.40–₹2.65 crore. It's plush and quiet, but the Range Rover plays a different game on off-road ability. Other rivals in the ballpark, the Toyota Land Cruiser (₹2.18–₹2.25 crore) and Audi RS Q8 Performance (₹2.38 crore), are still petrol. Given the Range Rover Electric's power and brand pull, expect it priced at or above the Maybach's band. You're paying for capability the Maybach simply doesn't offer.
Off-road ability: 900 mm wading, 45-degree slopes, 50 ms traction
Going electric hasn't softened the Range Rover's rough-road chops. Its traction system reacts in as little as 50 milliseconds to keep grip on tricky surfaces. It can wade through up to 900 mm of water, useful in a flooded Indian monsoon underpass. Single-pedal driving lets it climb slopes up to 45 degrees. Twin-chamber air suspension and a lower centre of gravity should also make it feel planted on the highway.
India-spec First Edition: three colours, Ultrafabrics cabin
India gets the Range Rover Electric as a First Edition with a fixed, curated spec. You get three exterior colours: Belgravia Green, Santorini Black and Varesine Blue. Inside, it uses new Light Cloud Ultrafabrics and Kvadrat materials, a more sustainable take on the cabin. It also introduces ThermAssist heat management tech to look after the battery. The look stays classic Range Rover, with only aero wheels and a smoother underbody hinting at the electric bits.
Should you book now or wait for the price?
Book now if you're an early adopter or a Range Rover loyalist who wants EV bragging rights first. The badge, the 600 km range claim and the fast charging are genuinely appealing. But if you're price-sensitive or comparing it against the petrol SV or Maybach EQS, wait for the official India price before committing. Without a number, the value question stays open. If you want a full-size luxury EV that can actually go off-road, the Range Rover Electric fits the bill, just check your RTO for road-tax waivers on EVs first.
