The biggest fear with a used EV is simple: how healthy is the battery? JSW MG Motor and Spinny say they've fixed that with a 200-point check and a battery health report. So a two-year-old MG Windsor EV could soon be a genuine bargain, if the numbers add up for you.
What actually changed?
Spinny will now sell certified used MG electric cars, using battery testing inputs from MG itself. Every car gets a 200-point inspection, a clear battery health score, the balance of the OEM warranty, and a fixed price with no haggling. You also get a 5-day money-back window. That's very different from buying from an uncle or an OLX listing, where you have no idea how much battery life is left. Cars are refurbished at Spinny's restoration centers, now fitted with EV-specific tools.
The ₹ reality: how much cheaper?
A new MG Windsor EV costs ₹14.10–18.60 lakh (ex-showroom). EVs drop fast, so an 18–36 month old unit could land around ₹10–13 lakh (our estimate, since no fixed used-EV pricing exists yet). Compare that with a brand-new Tata Tiago EV at ₹6.99 lakh or a new Citroen eC3X at ₹11.99–13.26 lakh. The Tiago is cheaper but smaller. The eC3X costs about the same as a used Windsor, so here you're really choosing new-and-small versus used-and-bigger. Used EVs also keep the 5% GST rate if the paperwork treats them as electric, which helps hold value.
Who is this for, and who isn't?
Three types of buyers win here. First, budget seekers can now trust the battery data before paying. Second, range-worried buyers who get real proven numbers, not brochure claims.
