Mahindra BE 7 spied charging: frameless doors, Tesla-style handles, 2027 launch likely

Mahindra's BE 7 has been testing for a while, and the newest spy shots are the clearest yet. This time the test mule was caught plugged into a public charger in Karnataka, likely Bengaluru. And the details on show are a big deal: this will be Mahindra's most premium EV so far, with features no mainstream Indian car has offered before.

BE 7 spied charging: what the spy shots reveal

The BE 7 was spotted plugged into a public fast charger, wearing a white-and-violet camouflage pattern (the earlier mules wore black-and-white). The charging flap sits on the rear left quarter panel, right where a fuel cap would normally be. That's the same spot Mahindra uses on its other Electric Origin SUVs. Park it next to the BE 6 on sale and the difference is clear: the BE 7 is a much bigger vehicle with far fancier bits. Mahindra hasn't announced a launch date, and the only hint is that 2027 could be the year.

Frameless doors and Tesla-style flush handles, a first for Mahindra

This is the headline. The BE 7 has frameless doors (the glass has no metal frame around it), which no mainstream Indian car offers today. To make that work, the windows drop down a little when you open the door and wind back up once it shuts. The door handles are the other talking point. They are flush (they sit flat with the body for a cleaner, slippery shape), but they work differently from other Mahindra handles. On today's Mahindra EVs, only one side pops out electrically, so on cheaper trims, you press one end to pop the other. On the BE 7 the whole handle is motorised and pops out fully. That's the kind of setup you see on Tesla and BYD cars.

Design read: C-shaped LEDs, clamshell panels, digital mirror

From the front, the BE 7 wears a big C-shaped LED daytime running light signature, echoed again at the rear in the tail lamps. There's a clamshell bonnet and a clamshell tailgate (single-piece panels that wrap over the edges for a seamless look), chunky bumpers, an upright windscreen and a sporty spoiler. Look closely at that spoiler, and you'll spot the rear washer and wiper neatly hidden inside it. There are also two cameras mounted in the spoiler. Mahindra usually puts the reversing camera near the number plate, so two cameras up high strongly suggest a digital IRVM (a rear-view mirror that shows a camera feed instead of glass).

Expected interior: three screens, Adrenox, Harman audio, ADAS

Earlier spy shots have confirmed three screens inside, so the dashboard should sit close to the BE 7 concept. There's no halo loop around the driver this time, but the centre console and sporty seats could be shared with the BE 6. Everything else here is expected, not confirmed. Mahindra is likely to offer ventilated seats, a 1400W 16-speaker Harman sound system, the Adrenox software suite, Level-2+ ADAS (safety tech that can steer and brake for you on highways), powered seats, ambient lighting and auto-parking. If all of that makes the cut, the BE 7 will be Mahindra's best-equipped EV yet.

Powertrain and range: 59/70/79 kWh packs, up to 282 bhp expected

Nothing here is official, so treat it as expected. The BE 7 could use the same battery choices as Mahindra's other Electric Origin SUVs: 59 kWh, 70 kWh and 79 kWh (kWh is the battery size, bigger means more range). The claimed range could be close to 700 km, with a realistic real-world figure around 500 km. On that math a weekend run from Bengaluru to Coorg and back is easy on one charge. Power is expected to go up to 282 bhp in a rear-wheel-drive single-motor setup. There's also talk of a dual-motor (all-wheel-drive) version at launch, but Mahindra hasn't confirmed that.

Launch timeline and rivals: 2027 likely, no date yet

The honest answer: Mahindra has not announced a launch date for the BE 7. The only guidance is that 2027 could be the year, so don't pencil in a festive-season or any fixed-date reveal. Mahindra currently has two XEV models and just one BE model on sale, and the BE 7 changes that. As a larger, more premium electric SUV, it will slot above the BE 6 and go up against bigger EVs like the Hyundai Creta Electric and sit in the conversation with the Tata Curvv EV and Mahindra's own XEV 9e. Price isn't known yet either, so wait for official numbers before planning a budget.
