The 50% discount has closed, whatever the other pages say

Search for a Karnataka challan today and much of what comes back explains how to claim a half-price settlement. That window shut on 10 July 2026 and nothing has replaced it. Here is the actual sequence.

When What it was Result
21 Nov to 12 Dec 2025 The fifth 50% waiver since 2023, covering police e-challans and decades-old RTO dues 77.4 lakh cases settled, ₹201 crore
21 Jun to 10 Jul 2026 Another 50% waiver. Police e-challans up to May 2026, plus Transport Department cases from 1991 to 2022 Closed
Today No discount scheme is running ₹2,827 crore still recoverable

That ₹2,827 crore is the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority’s own estimate of what remains recoverable, given to the government before the 2026 round opened. It is the reason these schemes keep coming back, and the reason they keep not clearing the backlog.

Habitual offenders now know they simply need to wait for the next round of concessions.
Deccan Herald editorial, 25 November 2025

That is reporting, not advice. There is no announced next window, a pending challan does not disappear while you wait, and it stays attached to the registration number through a sale, a transfer or an insurance check. What the pattern does tell you is worth knowing before you assume a fine is fixed forever.

Scheme dates and figures as reported in June 2026 coverage and in the Deccan Herald editorial of 25 November 2025.

Bengaluru has more vehicles than most states

Bengaluru Traffic Police publish these figures on their own site. They explain why the pending pile reaches thousands of crores in the first place.

1.19 crore

vehicles in the city

30,000

violations a day

2,100

new vehicles registered a day

843

road deaths in 2025

Thirty thousand violations a day is roughly 1.1 crore a year from one city. Against a population of 1.4 crore, the city has 1.19 crore vehicles, which is close to one per person. A backlog measured in thousands of crores is what those two numbers produce when a share of each day’s challans goes unpaid.

Waiting for the next sale has a cost

A pending challan sits against the registration number, not against you, so it surfaces in any check a buyer, an insurer or an RTO runs on the vehicle. If a transfer or a renewal comes up before the next discount window opens, the full amount is what is on the record. Checking what is outstanding costs nothing and takes a registration number.

E Challan Karnataka: frequently asked questions

Is the 50% discount on Karnataka traffic fines still available?

No. The last window ran from 21 June to 10 July 2026 and has closed. Nothing has replaced it. Many pages still describing the offer as live are out of date.

How many times has Karnataka discounted traffic fines?

A Deccan Herald editorial of 25 November 2025 described the scheme that ran from 21 November to 12 December 2025 as the fifth such discount since 2023. A further round followed from 21 June to 10 July 2026.

How much is still unpaid in Karnataka?

Around ₹2,827 crore, on the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority’s estimate given to the government before the 2026 round. The November to December 2025 drive settled 77.4 lakh police cases and collected ₹201 crore, which did not clear the backlog.

How do I check a Karnataka challan by vehicle number?

Enter the registration number in the box on this page. You can also use Bengaluru Traffic Police at btp.karnataka.gov.in, the KarnatakaOne portal, or the national system at echallan.parivahan.gov.in. Checking is free on all of them.

Should I wait for the next discount scheme?

There is no announced next window, so there is nothing to wait for with a date on it. Meanwhile the challan stays attached to the registration number and shows up in any check a buyer, insurer or RTO runs, so a transfer or renewal in the meantime means paying the full amount.

I was never stopped in Bengaluru. Can I still have a challan?

Yes. Bengaluru Traffic Police record about 30,000 violations a day across a city with 1.19 crore vehicles, and a large share are camera-raised with no interaction. The notice goes to the mobile number on the RTO record, which is often not the current owner’s.

My car is registered in Tamil Nadu or Andhra Pradesh. Can it have a Karnataka challan?

Yes. A challan attaches to the vehicle rather than to the state that issued the plate, so a TN or AP registration picks one up on a Karnataka camera exactly as a KA plate does. Search by registration number and it shows whichever state raised it.

Are the fines different in Bangalore, Mysore or Mangalore?

No. Compounding amounts are set at state level, so every district in Karnataka charges what the state charges. What differs is enforcement volume, and Bengaluru is far ahead of anywhere else in the state.
