Mahindra XUV 7XO scores 5 stars in Bharat NCAP

The Mahindra XUV 7XO has been awarded a five-star Bharat NCAP rating for both adult and child occupant protection. It scored 30.76 out of 32 for adults and 44.97 out of 49 for children, putting it among the strongest performers the Indian programme has tested.

What did the XUV 7XO score in Bharat NCAP?

The Mahindra XUV 7XO scored 30.76/32 for adult occupant protection and 44.97/49 for child occupant protection, earning 5 stars in both categories. It took a perfect 16/16 in the side movable deformable barrier test and 14.76/16 in the frontal offset test.

Which variant was crash tested?

Bharat NCAP tested the seven-seater AX7 diesel automatic, in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive form. The five-star rating applies across every XUV 7XO variant, because the safety kit that earns it is standard on all of them.

That last point matters more than it sounds. A rating is only as useful as the number of cars it covers, and plenty of five-star results in India apply to a single well-equipped trim while the entry variant goes without. Here the structure and the core safety equipment are common across the range, so the base AX carries the same protection as the AX7 that was tested.

What safety equipment is standard on the XUV 7XO?

Every XUV 7XO gets six airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, hill-hold and hill-descent assist, and ISOFIX child seat anchorages as standard. A 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS and tyre pressure monitoring are reserved for higher trims.

  • Standard on all variants: 6 airbags, ESC, traction control, hill-hold assist, hill-descent control, ISOFIX anchorages
  • Higher trims only: 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS, tyre pressure monitoring system

Where did it lose points?

The XUV 7XO's weakest result was the child occupant vehicle assessment, at 9 out of 13. Its dynamic child protection score was near-perfect at 23.97/24, and child seat installation scored a full 12/12.

In other words: the car protects children extremely well in an actual impact, and every child seat Bharat NCAP tried could be fitted correctly. The points it dropped are in the vehicle assessment portion, which looks at seating positions and the provision made for child restraints rather than crash performance itself. It is the least alarming place on the scorecard to lose marks.

On the adult side, the 14.76 out of 16 in the frontal offset test is the only real deduction. The side impact result was flawless.

Should the rating change what you buy?

If you were already cross-shopping the XUV 7XO against other seven-seaters, this removes safety as a reason to hesitate, particularly because the rating covers the whole range rather than one loaded trim. If you were choosing between variants purely on safety, the result says you do not need to stretch to the top trim to get the protection; you would be paying for the camera, ADAS and convenience kit instead.

The XUV 7XO is currently listed from ₹13.99 lakh to ₹25.79 lakh ex-showroom across 11 variants, as a 4,695 mm long seven-seater on a 2,750 mm wheelbase.

The short version: five stars for both adults and children, a perfect side impact score, and — unusually — a rating that applies to every variant rather than just the one that was tested.
