BMW Cars in India

BMW's India line-up runs from the 2 Series Gran Coupe and the long-wheelbase 3 Series and 5 Series sedans to a full SUV ladder — the X1, X3, X5 and the flagship seven-seat X7 — plus the M performance range and the i-badged electric models. Many models are offered in India-specific long-wheelbase form for added rear-seat space.

Most of these cars are assembled locally at BMW Group Plant Chennai, which began operations in 2007 as a complete-knock-down (CKD) facility. Local assembly of models such as the 3 Series, 5 Series, X1, X3, X5 and X7 helps BMW keep its India range sharply priced, with localisation of up to around 50% on made-in-India cars.

BMW India also retails the MINI brand and runs BMW Motorrad for motorcycles, and is steadily growing its electric portfolio under the i sub-brand.
