Maruti is testing a 2026 Baleno facelift with new lights, a possible hybrid engine and Level-2 ADAS, so expect the ₹5.99–9.17 lakh range to climb.
Key facts
- Current price: ₹5.99 lakh (Sigma MT) to ₹9.17 lakh (Alpha AMT), ex-showroom
- Engine: 1.2L petrol, 89 bhp, 22.35 kmpl (MT and AMT)
- CNG: 76 bhp, 30.61 km/kg (Delta ₹7.77L, Zeta ₹8.67L)
- Expected new: hybrid engine, Level-2 ADAS, bigger screen, ventilated seats
- Launch date: not announced by Maruti yet
- Trims: Sigma, Delta, Zeta, Alpha
Maruti has started testing the 2026 Baleno facelift, and a heavily camouflaged test car has been spotted. The big questions for you: will it get a hybrid engine and ADAS (safety tech that can brake and steer for you), and how much will that push up today's ₹5.99–9.17 lakh price? Maruti hasn't confirmed a launch date, so treat everything below as expected, not final.
What's changing on the outside (and what stays)
The current Baleno is a clean, well-proportioned hatchback, and the shape isn't changing. Up front you get a wider grille, new headlamps, and a redesigned bumper. The sides look the same, with only new alloy wheels expected. At the back, the tailgate carries over, but the taillights should be new. So this is an evolution, not a full redesign.
Interior: Still hidden, so temper your hopes
There are no interior spy shots yet, so assume today's cabin as the base. Maruti may add new seat fabric and color themes. A bigger touchscreen (the current setup is small) and ventilated seats (that blow cool air on hot days) are expected on top trims. But nothing on the dashboard or screen size is confirmed.
The Hybrid wildcard and what it means for your fuel bill
Maruti may pair the 1.2L petrol with a small electric motor, like the Swift hybrid sold abroad. Today the Baleno gives 22.35 km/l (claimed), so a hybrid could realistically push real-world mileage higher and cut your petrol spend. The CNG variants (30.61 km/kg, ₹7.77–8.67 lakh) will likely stay non-hybrid, since CNG is already cheap to run. For someone driving 1,500 km a month, better mileage saves a few hundred rupees weekly.
ADAS, price and who should wait
The Fronx facelift is being tested with Level-2 ADAS (adaptive cruise and lane-keep assist), and the Baleno should get the same kit. That safety tech usually adds cost. If it lands, the top Alpha AMT could move above today's ₹9.17 lakh, possibly near ₹9.7 lakh. The Tata Tiago tops out at ₹8.55 lakh, ₹62,000 cheaper than the current Alpha, but the Tiago offers no ADAS and no automatic above mid-spec. If ADAS arrives, the Baleno pulls further ahead on features.
Should you buy now or wait?
If you want a cheap, frugal petrol hatchback right now, the current Baleno Sigma at ₹5.99 lakh still makes sense. Delta and Zeta CNG buyers (₹7.77 and ₹8.67 lakh) likely see little change, so no need to wait. But if you want the top Alpha with ADAS and a hybrid, hold on for full pricing before you sign. Waiting risks a ₹40,000–60,000 hike, but you get a real safety kit for it. Remember, the on-road price adds road tax, registration, and insurance and varies by state.
