Jeep Compass 85th Anniversary Edition launched at ₹26.70 lakh, only 85 units

A collectible trim based on the Model S (O), with '85' badges, gold cabin accents and a dashcam pack, priced almost the same as the car it's built on.

Jeep Compass 85th Anniversary Edition launched at ₹26.70 lakh, only 85 units

Jeep is 85 this year, and India gets a party trim to mark it. The Compass 85th Anniversary Edition starts at ₹26.70 lakh (ex-showroom), just ₹25,000 more than the Model S (O) it's based on. But the real hook isn't the kit. Only 85 units will be sold in the whole country, so this is a badge-of-honor buy, not a value one.

₹26.70 lakh for 85 units: What you pay vs the Model S (O)

The Anniversary Edition is priced at ₹26.70 lakh (ex-showroom). That's just ₹25,000 above the Model S (O) manual, which sits at ₹26.45 lakh in our lineup. For that small premium you get cosmetic add-ons, not a bigger engine or a lower price. On-road, expect a good bit more once you add road tax, registration, and insurance, and that varies by state, so check your RTO. The point of this trim is scarcity. With production capped at 85 cars nationwide, Jeep is selling exclusivity first and features second.

What's actually new: '85' badges, black alloys and gold cabin drama

Outside, the changes are subtle. You get '85' decals on the front doors, tailgate, and wheel hubcaps, plus 18-inch gloss-black alloy wheels. Everything else carries over: the seven-slot grille, LED headlights, eyebrow-shaped DRLs (daytime running lamps), and LED taillights. Inside is where it feels special. The cabin goes all black with Mayan Gold accents, black leatherette seats with gold contrast stitching, and gold ambient lighting that extends to the panoramic sunroof edges. It looks richer than the standard car, which is really the whole idea.

The AXS pack: Digital IRVM, dashcams and sunroof lighting

Jeep also offers an 85th Anniversary AXS accessory pack on top. This adds a digital IRVM (a rearview mirror that shows a camera feed instead of a normal reflection), plus front and rear dashcams for recording drives. You also get patterned SkyLounge illumination around the sunroof and extra ambient cabin lighting. These are useful convenience bits, especially the dashcams for daily traffic. One catch: Jeep hasn't announced the price of the AXS pack yet, so the ₹26.70 lakh figure may not be the full spend.

Where it slots in the Compass lineup (₹17.99 lakh–₹30.95 lakh)

The Compass range runs from the Sport at ₹17.99 lakh to the Track Edition 4WD AT at ₹30.95 lakh. The Anniversary Edition slots near the top, priced between the Limited (O) AT (₹26.90 lakh) and the Track Edition manual (₹26.95 lakh). Compared to the Track Edition, you save ₹25,000 but skip its off-road styling kit. Against the Limited (O) manual at ₹24.83 lakh, you're paying about ₹1.87 lakh more, largely for the gold trim and rarity. So this isn't a step up the ladder. It's a Model S (O) in a party dress.

Engine, gearbox, 4WD: Nothing changes here

Mechanically, it's the compass you already know. The 2.0-liter Multijet II turbo-diesel makes 170 bhp and 350 Nm of torque (pulling power). You can pick a 6-speed manual or a 9-speed torque converter automatic, with Jeep's 4WD system offered on the automatic. The AT versions also get frequency-selective damping suspension for a more settled ride. In short, the driving experience is identical to the standard car. If you liked how the Compass drives, nothing here spoils it.

Should you buy it? Collectible appeal vs the value trims

This one's simple. If you want a compass that nobody else on your street will have, the 1-of-85 tag and the gold cabin make it worth booking. It's a genuine collectible, and the dashcam plus digital IRVM adds real everyday use. But if you care about features per rupee, the Model S (O) manual gives you the same engine and core kit for ₹25,000 less. The Limited (O) AT at ₹26.90 lakh is another sensible pick with an automatic transmission. Buy the Anniversary Edition for the badge and the drama, not the math.

It starts at ₹26.70 lakh (ex-showroom), just ₹25,000 more than the Model S (O) it's based on. The AXS accessory pack costs extra, and Jeep hasn't revealed that price yet. On-road prices will be higher after road tax and insurance, which vary by state.

How many units of the Compass 85th Anniversary Edition are available?+

Only 85 units will be sold across all of India. This tiny run is the trim's main selling point. Bookings are open at Jeep dealerships and on the Jeep India website.

Does the Anniversary Edition have any engine or performance changes?+

No. It uses the same 2.0-litre diesel with 170 bhp and 350 Nm as the rest of the range. You get a 6-speed manual or a 9-speed automatic, with 4WD on the automatic. All changes are cosmetic and accessory-based.

Jeep Compass 85th Anniversary Edition vs Model S (O): which is better value?+

The Model S (O) manual at ₹26.45 lakh gives the same engine and core features for ₹25,000 less. The Anniversary Edition only makes sense if you value the 1-of-85 exclusivity and gold cabin. For plain value, stick with the Model S (O) or the Limited (O) AT.
