Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella Electric SUV Launched from ₹23.60 Lakh
Toyota enters India's electric SUV market with the Urban Cruiser Ebella, offering two battery options with ranges up to 543 km. The EV shares its platform with Maruti's e Vitara and features comprehensive equipment across three variants.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor has launched the Urban Cruiser Ebella electric SUV in India with prices starting at ₹23.60 lakh (ex-showroom). The Ebella marks Toyota's serious entry into India's rapidly growing electric vehicle segment, competing directly with established players like the Hyundai Creta EV, Mahindra BE 6, and its platform sibling, the Maruti e Vitara.
The Urban Cruiser Ebella is offered with two lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack options. The entry-level 49 kWh battery produces 144 bhp and 189 Nm of torque, with a claimed range of 440 km. The larger 61 kWh battery generates 174 bhp with the same torque output, delivering an impressive claimed range of 543 km on a single charge. Both variants support DC fast charging for convenient long-distance travel.
Toyota offers the Ebella across three variants: the 49 kWh E1, and the 61 kWh E2 and E3. All variants come comprehensively equipped with features including a 10.1-inch digital driver's display, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, and ventilated front seats. The rear seats offer sliding, reclining and 40:20:40 split-folding functionality for enhanced versatility.
The cabin layout closely mirrors that of the Maruti e Vitara, reflecting their shared platform development. However, Toyota has ensured distinct styling elements to differentiate the Ebella and maintain its brand identity. The EV's competitive pricing positions it strategically against rivals whilst leveraging Toyota's reputation for reliability and after-sales service.
Expected pricing places the Ebella in a similar bracket to the Maruti e Vitara, which retails between ₹15.99 lakh and ₹20.01 lakh. Toyota is banking on buyers willing to pay a premium for the Toyota badge, superior dealer network, and historically strong resale values.
What it means for Indian buyers: The Urban Cruiser Ebella provides a compelling electric SUV option backed by Toyota's trusted brand image and extensive service network. The 543 km range addresses range anxiety concerns, whilst the LFP battery chemistry promises better longevity and thermal stability suited to Indian climatic conditions. Buyers will benefit from Toyota's reliability reputation transitioning into the electric era.
