Tata Sierra EV Launch Timeline Pushed to July-September 2026 with Dual Battery Options
Tata Motors has clarified that the Sierra EV will arrive between July and September 2026, not in June as earlier expected. The electric SUV will offer 65 kWh and 75 kWh battery packs with over 500 km range and AWD options.
Tata Motors' highly anticipated Sierra EV, which revives the iconic nameplate from the 1990s as a modern electric SUV, will not launch in June 2026 as some reports had suggested. Based on Tata Motors' latest official timeline, the Sierra EV is now expected to arrive in the second quarter of the fiscal year 2026-27, which translates to a July-September 2026 launch window.
The Sierra EV will be positioned between the Curvv EV and the Harrier EV in Tata's expanding electric vehicle portfolio. It is expected to be built on Tata's proven EV architecture and will reportedly offer two battery pack options: a 65 kWh unit and a larger 75 kWh pack, both borrowed from the Harrier EV platform. The larger battery is expected to deliver a real-world driving range exceeding 500 kilometres on a full charge.
Tata is planning to offer both single-motor rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) variants of the Sierra EV, catering to different buyer preferences. The AWD configuration will not only provide enhanced traction and performance but also appeal to buyers seeking a more dynamic driving experience.
In terms of features, the production-spec Sierra EV is expected to come loaded with a triple-screen dashboard layout, a panoramic sunroof, Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging functions, and comprehensive connected car technologies. The design is expected to retain inspiration from the original Sierra's distinctive window line while adopting a futuristic EV identity with modern lighting elements and aerodynamic bodywork.
Pricing is anticipated to start from around ₹18 lakh (ex-showroom), making it competitive within Tata's EV lineup and accessible to a broad range of buyers. The Sierra name carries strong nostalgic value in India, and Tata Motors will be banking on this emotional connect to drive initial interest and bookings.
What it means for Indian buyers: While the slight delay means a few more months of waiting, the Sierra EV promises to be a compelling package with dual battery options, AWD capability, and competitive pricing. It addresses the growing demand for mid-size electric SUVs with practical range and feature-rich cabins.
