Toyota Kirloskar Motor has launched the Urban Cruiser Ebella, its latest electric SUV for the Indian market, on 29th May 2026. The EV is priced at ₹23.60 lakh, ex-showroom, for the top E3 variant with the larger 61 kWh battery pack.

The Urban Cruiser Ebella is Toyota's version of the Maruti e Vitara, sharing its platform and core technical specifications. It is positioned in a similar price range as the e Vitara, which retails between ₹15.99 lakh and ₹20.01 lakh depending on variant and battery configuration.

Toyota offers the Ebella with two lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack options. The entry-level 49 kWh battery is paired with a motor producing 144 bhp and 189 Nm of torque, delivering a claimed range of 440 kilometres on a full charge. The larger 61 kWh battery comes with a more powerful 174 bhp motor (maintaining the same 189 Nm torque figure) and offers an impressive 543 km range, making it suitable for longer journeys and highway driving.

Inside, the Ebella features a modern cabin layout resembling the e Vitara, equipped with a 10.1-inch digital driver's display and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other features include automatic climate control, ventilated front seats for added comfort in Indian conditions, and practical sliding, reclining rear seats with a versatile 40:20:40 split-folding configuration.

Toyota has structured the lineup into three variants: the entry E1 with the 49 kWh battery, and the E2 and E3 variants both using the larger 61 kWh pack with progressive feature additions.

What it means for Indian buyers: The Urban Cruiser Ebella offers Toyota's renowned reliability and service network backing to the electric SUV segment. The 543 km range addresses range anxiety concerns for most buyers, whilst the sliding rear seats add practical versatility. However, buyers should compare carefully with the Maruti e Vitara and rivals like the Hyundai Creta Electric to determine which offers the best value and feature combination for their specific needs.
