Tata Sierra EV and MG Majestor Lead May's Electric and Premium SUV Launches

May 2026 is shaping up to be a momentous month for Indian SUV buyers, with Tata Motors expected to unveil the much-anticipated Sierra EV whilst MG Motor India prepares to announce pricing for its Majestor three-row SUV. Both vehicles represent significant additions to their respective manufacturers' portfolios and cater to distinctly different market segments.

The Tata Sierra EV marks the return of one of India's most iconic nameplates, this time reimagined for the electric age. Originally sold as a three-door lifestyle vehicle in the 1990s, the new Sierra EV adopts a modern electric SUV form whilst retaining design cues that pay homage to its heritage. The Sierra EV is expected to be positioned below the upcoming Harrier EV in Tata's electric vehicle lineup, suggesting a price range that could start around ₹20-25 lakh.

Tata is expected to offer the Sierra EV in both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations, catering to buyers seeking both efficiency and performance. The electric SUV will compete in a rapidly crowding segment that includes the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Vinfast VF6, and MG Windsor EV. This positioning makes it crucial for Tata to price the Sierra EV competitively whilst offering strong range figures and a comprehensive feature set.

Whilst specific battery capacity and range figures haven't been officially confirmed, industry observers expect the Sierra EV to offer battery pack options between 45-60 kWh, potentially delivering a real-world range of 400-500 kilometres. The vehicle is likely to support both AC and DC fast charging, with the latter enabling 10-80 per cent charging in under an hour at compatible charging stations.

On the premium side, MG Motor India is preparing to announce prices for the Majestor, a three-row SUV that was unveiled earlier in 2026. The Majestor is expected to receive its official pricing by mid-May and will be offered in Sharp and Savvy trim levels, with both six-seat and seven-seat configurations available to suit different buyer preferences.

The MG Majestor comes loaded with premium features including dual wireless charging pads, triple differential locks for serious off-road capability, cooled, powered and massaging front seats for luxury, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a fully digital instrument cluster. These specifications position the Majestor as a comprehensive package for buyers seeking both comfort and capability.

Once launched, the Majestor is expected to replace the ageing Gloster in MG's SUV portfolio, taking on rivals such as the Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, Skoda Kodiaq, and Jeep Meridian. Expected pricing is likely to fall in the ₹30-45 lakh bracket, making it a value proposition in the premium seven-seat SUV segment.

What it means for Indian buyers: The Sierra EV's arrival strengthens Tata's electric vehicle offensive and provides buyers with another credible homegrown EV option in the crucial mid-size SUV segment. Its competitive pricing and dual-drivetrain options should appeal to both efficiency-focused urban buyers and those seeking all-weather capability. The MG Majestor, meanwhile, offers a feature-rich alternative to established players in the premium SUV space, with its comprehensive equipment list and competitive pricing potentially disrupting the segment. Both launches reflect the rapid evolution of the Indian automotive market towards electrification and premiumisation.
