Honda Cars India is expected to announce pricing for its new flagship SUV, the ZR-V, in June 2026, with customer deliveries scheduled to commence from July. The company unveiled the ZR-V alongside the City facelift launch in May and has already commenced pre-bookings, signalling strong interest in this premium midsize hybrid SUV.

The ZR-V will be imported into India as a completely built-up unit (CBU), which typically results in higher pricing due to import duties. However, it positions Honda firmly in the premium hybrid SUV segment, sitting above the Elevate in the brand's Indian line-up. The SUV showcases Honda's commitment to electrified powertrains in India, ahead of a pure-electric model based on the 0 Alpha concept that will follow later.

Under the bonnet, the ZR-V is powered by Honda's acclaimed e:HEV strong-hybrid system, which combines a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with twin electric motors. The combined system output stands at 184 hp and 315 Nm of torque, with power sent to the front wheels via an electronic continuously variable transmission (e-CVT). Unlike mild hybrids that merely assist the engine, Honda's strong-hybrid system can propel the vehicle on electric power alone at low speeds, significantly boosting fuel efficiency.

Honda claims a fuel efficiency figure of 22.8 kmpl for the ZR-V in international markets, which would make it one of the most efficient SUVs in its class in India. The e:HEV system intelligently switches between pure-electric mode, hybrid mode, and engine-direct-drive mode depending on driving conditions, optimising efficiency without requiring any input from the driver.

In terms of design, the ZR-V sports sleek LED headlights with distinctive L-shaped LED daytime running lights and a black grille. It rides on 18-inch alloy wheels and features wraparound LED taillights that give it a modern appearance. Inside, the ZR-V offers a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver's display, powered front seats, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, and a powered tailgate. Safety features include eight airbags, a 360-degree camera, and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Notably absent are a sunroof and ventilated seats, features that many Indian buyers have come to expect in this price bracket. This could be a point of contention given the CBU import route likely means pricing in the ₹40-50 lakh range, where buyers expect comprehensive equipment.

What it means for Indian buyers: The ZR-V represents Honda's bet on hybrid technology as a bridge to full electrification. If you prioritise fuel efficiency, low running costs, and Honda's reputation for reliability over outright features or brand prestige, the ZR-V offers genuine hybrid benefits without the range anxiety of EVs. However, the CBU import route means pricing will be premium, so compare carefully against the Toyota Hyryder, Grand Vitara strong hybrids, and even entry-luxury SUVs before committing.
