Honda Cars India has officially launched the ZR-V hybrid SUV in May 2026, priced between ₹40 lakh and ₹45 lakh ex-showroom. The model arrives as a completely built unit (CBU) import and serves as Honda's new flagship SUV in India, underlining the carmaker's heightened commitment to the premium segment.

The ZR-V is a new nameplate for the Indian market and positions itself in the competitive premium five-seater SUV space currently dominated by the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line, Skoda Kodiaq Lounge variant, and Jeep Meridian. Honda's key differentiator is the hybrid powertrain, which combines a petrol engine with electric motors to deliver both performance and fuel efficiency.

Whilst Honda has not disclosed detailed specifications for the Indian variant, international versions of the ZR-V hybrid employ a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine working in tandem with two electric motors through Honda's e:HEV intelligent multi-mode drive system. This setup prioritises electric driving in urban conditions whilst seamlessly switching to hybrid or engine-only modes during highway cruising.

The ZR-V features contemporary SUV styling with LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, and a bold front grille design. Inside, buyers can expect premium upholstery, a digital instrument cluster, a large touchscreen infotainment system with wireless smartphone connectivity, automatic climate control, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) including adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist.

Honda's decision to launch the ZR-V as a CBU import reflects a strategic shift towards premium halo products that generate brand equity rather than volume sales. The ZR-V kicks off a new wave of flagship models designed to strengthen Honda's premium credentials in India ahead of mass-market launches planned for later in the decade.

What it means for Indian buyers: The ZR-V hybrid brings a fresh alternative to the premium five-seater SUV segment, offering Honda's proven hybrid technology at a competitive price point of ₹40-45 lakh. The electrified powertrain addresses rising fuel costs and environmental concerns whilst maintaining driving enjoyment. However, CBU import status means higher pricing and potentially limited service support compared to locally assembled rivals. The ZR-V appeals to buyers seeking a unique proposition in a segment dominated by German and American brands.
