Honda Cars India is gearing up for a significant double launch on May 22, 2026, introducing both the updated City facelift and the all-new ZR-V hybrid SUV to the Indian market. This marks an important milestone for Honda as it strengthens its product portfolio with both mainstream and premium offerings.
The 2026 Honda City facelift represents the second major update for the fifth-generation sedan, following the previous facelift in 2023. The exterior changes are expected to be evolutionary rather than revolutionary, with revisions to the headlights, tail-lamps, bumpers and alloy wheels. However, the interior is where Honda has focused its attention, with anticipated additions including a powered driver's seat, ventilated front seats, a larger touchscreen infotainment system, and a fully digital driver's display. Some variants may also receive a 360-degree camera system.
Under the bonnet, the City facelift is likely to continue with the proven 121 bhp 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and the 126 bhp strong hybrid powertrain option, along with their respective gearbox combinations. The hybrid variant, in particular, has been well-received for its impressive fuel efficiency and smooth power delivery, making it a compelling choice for Indian buyers seeking lower running costs.
The Honda ZR-V represents a bolder move for the Japanese manufacturer. As Honda's new flagship SUV for India, the ZR-V will arrive as a completely built unit (CBU) import and is expected to be priced between ₹40 lakh and ₹50 lakh, ex-showroom. This positioning puts it squarely against premium five-seat SUVs such as the Volkswagen Tiguan, Skoda Kodiaq Lounge variant, and Jeep Meridian.
The ZR-V's key differentiator in this segment will be its hybrid powertrain, utilising a 2.0-litre petrol engine paired with Honda's e:HEV technology. This system delivers a combined output of around 200 bhp whilst offering superior fuel efficiency compared to conventional petrol or diesel rivals. The hybrid technology allows the ZR-V to run in pure electric mode at low speeds, switch to hybrid mode for optimal efficiency, and use the petrol engine directly for highway cruising.
Feature-wise, the international-spec ZR-V boasts a comprehensive equipment list including LED headlamps and tail-lamps, a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, a large touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity, a digital instrument cluster, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), multiple airbags, and Honda's LaneWatch camera system.
What it means for Indian buyers: The City facelift offers incremental improvements to an already popular sedan, making it more competitive against the Maruti Ciaz, Hyundai Verna and Skoda Slavia. The ZR-V hybrid, meanwhile, provides Indian buyers with a premium SUV option that combines performance with efficiency, though its CBU status means it will command a significant premium. Both launches underscore Honda's renewed commitment to the Indian market with a focus on hybrid technology that could help buyers navigate rising fuel costs whilst enjoying lower emissions.
