Yamaha FZ vs Yamaha MT15 -From the past decade commuter segment has evolved like hell, this segment has seen various revolutionary bikes which are still in market and upgrading to cope up with youth. This segment will not make a hole in your pocket if you are planning to own one. Major brands like Bajaj, Hero, Honda, TVS etc. are also in this game but currently the market is dominated by the Japanese maker Yamaha. Out of which Yamaha FZ is around us since 2008 and MT 15 is recent but giving a tough competition to its rivals.

Both the bikes come from the same stable Yamaha, having single cylinder with 150 cc and both falls under the same segment but here is the catch.
Yamaha launched FZ in the year 2008, back then the market was ruled by Bajaj Pulsar, Hero CBZ and TVS Apache. Just after the launch it gained popularity among youngsters because of its jacked up stances, big fat rear tyre, Which the Indian biker community has never seen in any commuter before.
With the years passing FZ has seen various face lifts and variations. The current version is FZ-S V-3.
It is 150cc air cooled motor coupled with a 5 speed gear box, producing a power output of 14 HP at 7000 rpm. Its ex-showroom price is 100000/-
This bike was launched in the year 2018 which was basically a naked version of Yamaha R15 V3, It rivals KTM duke 200 and 125 along with Bajaj pulsar 200 ns and rs. It got its design similar from its big brothers from litre class. Apart from its fairing, swing arm and sprocket ration every technical aspect has been carried forwarded from R15 v3, with minor mods. It is configured with a liquid cooled high compression single cylinder engine of 150cc coupled with a 6 speed gear box and the icing on the cake is it has a slipper clutch arrangement which helps the rider with high speed down shifts. This is engine is an engineering art Yamaha has also thrown VVT(variable valve transmission) technology into it, to make it more efficient at high speeds. Anyone can get a hands on it with a very fair attractive on-road price of 190000/- across India.
Both this rides are very well known in countries like India, Indonesian. As of now they are still capturing the commuter segment with blazing colours.
Which machine Suits the best?
If you are more into long rides and cover long distances at higher speed i.e. more than 100 kmph MT 15 will suit you the best, it will give a mileage of approximately 40-45 kmpl and in a full tank you can cover at least 400-450 kms. It is not that it won’t be good for city rides; it can be a good choice for bumper to bumper traffic but with frequent gear shifts.
And if you don’t want to spend more than 1.9 lakhs but looking for a stylish commuter bike then FZ is the one for you. It can also give you a mileage of 40-45 kmpl under traffic conditions. And due to its short wheel base it is very much agile in traffic conditions. No need of frequent gear changes as it is mated with a 5 speed gear box.
