Toyota Kirloskar Motor is preparing to launch the Urban Cruiser Ebella, marking the brand's entry into India's dedicated electric SUV segment. The launch is expected shortly, with the model positioned as a mass-market EV alternative sharing its platform with the recently launched Maruti Suzuki e Vitara.

The Urban Cruiser Ebella will be offered with two lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack options. The entry-level variant features a 49kWh battery paired with a motor producing 144bhp and 189Nm of torque, delivering a claimed range of 440km on a single charge. The higher variant gets a 61kWh battery pack with a more powerful motor generating 174bhp whilst maintaining the same 189Nm torque output. This larger battery configuration is claimed to deliver an impressive 543km of range.

Pricing is expected to mirror the Maruti e Vitara, positioning the Ebella between ₹15.99 lakh and ₹20.01 lakh (ex-showroom). Toyota will offer the electric SUV in three variants: the 49kWh E1, and the 61kWh E2 and E3 trims.

Inside, the cabin layout resembles that of the e Vitara and comes equipped with a 10.1-inch digital driver's display, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, automatic climate control, and ventilated front seats. The rear seats offer sliding, reclining, and 40:20:40 split-folding functionality for enhanced practicality.

What it means for Indian buyers: The Urban Cruiser Ebella represents Toyota's serious commitment to India's EV transition. Badge-engineered from the e Vitara, it offers Toyota's renowned service network and reliability reputation to EV buyers. The competitive pricing, impressive range figures, and feature-rich cabin make it an attractive proposition against rivals like the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, and MG Windsor EV. Toyota's extensive dealership network could give it an edge in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities where EV infrastructure is still developing.
