Skoda Auto India is set to introduce the high-performance Kodiaq RS variant in June 2026, marking the arrival of the brand's first-ever RS-badged SUV in the Indian market. The Kodiaq RS represents Skoda's performance sub-brand vRS (rebranded as RS for some markets) and will be imported as a completely built-up unit (CBU), positioning it as a niche, premium offering.

The Kodiaq RS differentiates itself from the standard Kodiaq through significant mechanical upgrades. The international-spec model features a retuned 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 60 hp and 80 Nm more than the regular Kodiaq sold in India. Whilst Skoda India has not yet confirmed exact output figures, this suggests power levels around 250 hp or higher, transforming the Kodiaq from a family SUV into a genuinely quick performance machine.

Power is channelled to all four wheels via Skoda's 4x4 all-wheel-drive system, paired with a seven-speed DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) dual-clutch automatic transmission. This combination ensures sharp, lag-free gear changes and optimal traction in all conditions, whether you're attacking a twisty mountain road or navigating monsoon-soaked city streets.

Visually, the Kodiaq RS adopts a more aggressive stance compared to the standard model. Key design differences include a black grille, a more aggressive front bumper with larger air intakes, sportier-looking 20-inch alloy wheels with red brake callipers, and subtle RS badging. Inside, the cabin receives an all-black treatment with red accents throughout, along with sportier front seats featuring integrated headrests that provide better lateral support during spirited driving.

The Kodiaq RS will retain the comprehensive feature set of the regular Kodiaq, including a large touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, three-zone climate control, and a full suite of safety features. As a CBU import, pricing is expected to command a significant premium over the locally assembled Kodiaq, potentially placing it in the ₹45-55 lakh bracket.

Skoda's decision to bring the Kodiaq RS to India reflects growing demand for performance SUVs among enthusiasts who want practicality, family space, and genuine driving thrills in a single package. It will compete against the likes of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Volkswagen Tiguan (if a performance variant arrives), and potentially some entry-luxury performance SUVs.

What it means for Indian buyers: If you're an enthusiast who needs a practical seven-seater but refuses to compromise on driving excitement, the Kodiaq RS offers a rare combination. The retuned engine, AWD system, and sportier suspension setup promise genuine performance, whilst the spacious cabin and boot ensure family duties aren't neglected. However, as a CBU import, expect premium pricing and potentially higher service costs. It's a niche product aimed at those who value driving dynamics over badge prestige.
