Mercedes-Benz India has officially confirmed the launch date for the highly anticipated S-Class facelift, scheduled for 15 June 2026. The German luxury carmaker claims up to 90 per cent of the refreshed S-Class is new, despite being termed a facelift.

The S-Class facelift debuts significant design updates including the signature tri-arrow elements in both headlamps and taillights, fresh bumpers, new multi-spoke alloy wheels, and an illuminated grille that elevates its commanding road presence. Inside, the cabin receives the latest MB OS operating system with over-the-air update capability, the MBUX superscreen that spans the dashboard, and a host of advanced comfort and connectivity features.

For the Indian market, Mercedes-Benz will initially offer the S 450e plug-in hybrid variant. This marks the first time a PHEV S-Class has been offered in India. The powertrain combines a 3.0-litre turbo-petrol inline-six engine with an electric motor powered by a 22 kWh battery pack. Total system output stands at 435 hp and 680 Nm of torque, enabling the luxury sedan to sprint from 0-100 kmph in just 5.7 seconds.

Whilst the S 450e PHEV will be the launch variant, Mercedes-Benz is expected to introduce a conventional petrol powertrain option at a later date. However, it remains unclear whether the Stuttgart-based manufacturer will continue offering a diesel variant for the Indian market, as the current-generation S-Class diesel has been a popular choice amongst chauffeur-driven buyers.

The refreshed S-Class continues to be positioned as one of the world's best luxury sedans, competing against the BMW 7 Series and Audi A8 L in India's flagship luxury sedan segment.

What it means for Indian buyers: The S-Class facelift brings cutting-edge plug-in hybrid technology to India's luxury sedan segment, offering reduced running costs and lower emissions without compromising on the performance and prestige expected from Mercedes-Benz's flagship. The 22 kWh battery should provide meaningful electric-only range for city driving, though exact figures await official confirmation. Pricing is expected to command a premium over the outgoing model, likely starting above ₹1.6 Crore ex-showroom.
